“Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” Luke 7:14 NKJV.
Calvary greetings to you and your household. I believe you’re fine and keeping pace with the daily study. The strength of God shall be our strength in Jesus name. Your life shall be a living testimony to God’s glory in Jesus name.
Some Notes on Luke Chapter 7.

  1. Jesus Heals the Centurion’s Servant1-10 .
Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.” Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not

trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.
Luke 7:1‭-‬10 NKJV
Take.
A. 1-2. A God-fearing big man. The average bigman is cold and only understands the colour of money. When any of his servants is challenged, he replaces him because the ship must keep sailing. But this particular bigman was ready to seek treatment for his boy anywhere. It must not go without mention as the Christian way to treat subordinates.
B. Verse 2b “Sick and ready to die” This servant

was described as ‘sick and ready to die’ yet the Centurion never gave up on searching fora solution.
C. Verses 4-5 “For whom He should do this deserving- this Centurion built a synagogue in Capernaum and had also being of immense support to me nation.
This man had financial and social and political capacity, and had used same for the benefit of the nation. The capacity with which God has given you, have you deployed it for the benefit of your nation or you have used it to organised killer squards? God knows you don’t have that kind of wealth. So He wouldn’t ask you such questions? God will never ask a man to account for what He hasn’t given him. He never required the man that was given one talent to come and account for five. God gave me mouth. I will account for all that I said with my mouth. God will not ask me to account for $500 which He never gave me. that I So, imagine the account given by the Jews about this Centurion. What will people say about you and your family . There are names that evoke hardship and afflictions . You could use coercion an

weapons of killing to silence the people and get compliance. But the crown does not endure forever. After you have gone and your name is mentioned would there be instant unsolicited and unprompted revulsion or feelings of nostalgia? It was people making case for this Centurion with ] evidence on the table. Is it an endless list of orphans and widows that would be thrown up when your name is mentioned tomorrow. Think about this Centurion and think about your life.
D. Verses 6-7. The Centurion feeling of unworthiness for Jesus to enter his house. It is important to note that inspite of all those ‘accolades being showered on this Centurion , he saw himself nothing. . Nobody relates with God with a sense of entitlement. Please take a listen:
“But God’s amazing grace has made me who I am! And his grace to me was not fruitless. In fact, I worked harder than all the rest, yet not in my own strength but God’s, for his empowering grace is poured out upon me.” 1 Corinthians 15:10 TPT.
E. Verse 9. Jesus respond to uncommon faith.

  1. Jesus Raises Son of the Widow of Nain11-17 .
Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.
    Luke 7:11‭-‬15‭, ‬17 NKJV
    Take.
    A. Verse 11. Darkness at noon! – a widow and a lone child.
    B. Verse 11b. “And a large crowd followed her” . It is not the large crowd that this widow needs, but that one person that will be a game-changer.

It wasn’t suppliers of tears that this widow needed but the dryer of tears. Unfortunately as they journeyed to the burial ground the suppliers of tears were increasing. Do you really know what you need? Do I really know what I should need at this point?
Those that were joining the woman were those facing the direction of the tomb, whereas what she needed was someone backing the direction she was headed.
Finally, what this widow needed was not someone to join the wailing but someone to issue the command that death will obey. The spirit of death hears wailing, but does not answer to wailing. It respons to command of the spirit of life. Thank You Jesus.
Jesus issued the command and direction changed. You can issue command of life to that ebbing situation now. Please do so.

  1. John the baptist Sent Messages to Jesus 18-37.

Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus,

saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” When the men had come to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ ” Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings’ courts. This is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’ For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having

been baptized with the baptism of John. And the Lord said, “To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not weep.’ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
Luke 7:18‭-‬20‭, ‬22‭-‬25‭, ‬27‭-‬29‭, ‬31‭-‬35 NKJV
Take.
A. Verses 18,-20. The Question :Are you the Coming One or we should look for another? Hmm…

  • John was about disoriented. A background we shouldn’t forget is that John was already in prison. Hearing the great things that Jesu was doing including raising the dead , did not add up for him.
  • Prior to John ‘s disillusionment, he had made clear statements tand had experience to the effect that Jesus was the Messiah. Recall “John

answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:16‭, ‬21‭-‬22 NKJV.
B. Verse 21-23 . Jesus Understood “And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight. Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” Luke 7:21‭-‬23 NKJV.

  • Jesus answered John’s disciples in a way that they will desire. At the same time He demonstrated that He is the Messiah viz: Blind see, Lame work, Lepers cleansed, Deaf hear,

Dead raised and
Gospel preached to the poor.
Please note that by the above statement Go tell John the blind see… Jesus was affirming the supremacy of the WORD and it’s fulfilment . Once it it the word, correctly applied, it is a validation.
C. Part B to Answer John’s Question.
When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings’ courts. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’ For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Luke 7:24‭-‬28 NKJV.
A. Jesus needed to stabilise the faith of these

people so that they are not affected negatively by John’s state.
B. ” A reed shaken by the wind? The troubles being faced by John’s imprisonment is akin to a wind
C . A prophet? Yes. I say to you more than a prophet.,” Jesus validated the fact of John being a prophet. But Jesus is much more. So don’t be disillusioned.
D. Verse 28. For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Luke 7:28 NKJV
Take.
The above statement of our Lord could be dimensioned into different ways.

  • First Jesus wanted us , and in particular the people there to realise the ultra importance of the role of John the baptist in the dispensation that was about to unfold. A dispensation that is far superior to what currently obtained.
  • who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
II Corinthians 3:6‭, ‬11‭, ‬14‭-‬15 NKJV

  • John had the unique position and privilege to be the one to introduce the Messiah to bring the fullness of blessings and grace to mankind (Jn.1; 16-17).
Please note this. Where you and I are greater than John is that John himself never had the fullness, but a measure of the Spirit (Jn.1:15-17); Mtt3:14) , but now every believer can ha6the fullness of the Spirit. Thank You Jesus.
  • On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;

for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
John 7:37‭-‬39 NKJV

  • Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49 NKJV.
  • to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:19 NKJV.
  • Based on this second point , as a new testament believer, I can have and operate all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This wasn’t possible under the Old testament.
Finally, if I would give it what it takes for my mind to be renewed I would begin to live a life where the miraculous is no longer a spike but a normal
  1. A Sinful Woman Forgiven 36,-50.

Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. And behold, a

woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed

My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
Luke 7:36‭-‬39‭, ‬41‭-‬48‭, ‬50 NKJV
A. One of the most unfortunate thing that could befall a man is to be Pharisees reason Jesus pronounced woes upon them. They just can’t change and can’t see good.
B The sinful woman. No matter how far gone a person has gone, if he would repent, Jesus is willing to accept him
The reason Christ came is to reconcile men unto God.
C . Verses45-47 This brings to fore the

point that faith must be demonstrated by works. “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.” This is still the message today
