The Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22 NKJV.
Calvary greetings to you and your household. . I believe you’re keeping pace with your daily bible chapter. It is great to realize you’re doing well. You shall finish strong to His glory in Jesus name.
Some Notes on Luke Chapter 3.

  1. John the Baptist Prepares the Way 1-6.
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’ ” Luke 3:1‭-‬6 NKJV Take. John was located in the wilderness where the word of God came to him.
  • John the Baptist preached 30 doctrines which we captured in our study of the book of Matthew. We would have a listing of this preaching because they still are at the core of the Bible not minding the fact that we don’t hear a good number of them, And when they’re preached, they far between. This situation doesn’t change the Bible truth.
  • Repentance (Mtt.3:2-8; Mk1:4). The born again that doesn’t come with repentance as a precondition for its effectiveness is a questionable born again. John took time to explain it in Lk. chapter 3.
  • Kingdom of heaven at hand (Mtt.3:2)
  • water baptism (Mtt.3:11)
  • Restitution (Mtt3:8; Lk.3:8)
  • Godliness (Mtt. 3: 3-10)
  • Wrath to come( Lk.3)
  • Miracles (Lk.3:8)
  • Heaven & Hell (Lk3.)
    First advent (John 1:29)
    Second advent (Lk.3:17)
  • Judgment on din(Mtt.3:10;Lk.3)
  • Salvation (Lk.3:6)
  • Love to others (Lk.3:11)
  • Honesty in business (Lk3:13)
  • And many more.
John the Baptist fulfils the prophecy in Isa.40:3-5. Prepare the way of the Lord. What is that? Jesus is the Lord. Hallelujah John was to go ahead of Him to announce His coming and get people prepared. Do we now see the reason John had to be born before Jesus which we studied in chapter 1? To accept Jesus as personal Lord is to accept transformation. Valley situation is changed mountains are made low, crooked life is straightened and rough marriages bleak future receive light. In short hope replaces hopelessness.. “And all flesh shall see the salvation of God “ it is God’s promise that is valid till the end of the world.
  1. John Preaches to the People 7-20..
Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” So the people asked him, saying, “What shall we do then?” He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.” Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.” Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not, John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.” And with many other exhortations he preached to the people. But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, also added this, above all, that he shut John up in prison.” Luke 3:7‭-‬20 NKJV. Take. .John Baptized those that come to him in repentance. He addressed some people as Brood of vipers because of their antecedents. When I become born again, my negative background should no longer rule my life.

B. Verse 8. The fallacy of background. Living an odious lifestyle and yet laying claim to a covenant will not work. “We have Abraham as our father..” . John was telling these Jews that the covenant of God with Father Abraham does not absolve them of personal responsibility. This is the reason our children should be encouraged to have their own salvation experience. God will help us in Jesus name
D. Verse 9. “Even the ax is laid upon the root of the trees” . John was telling the Jews God was ready to cut them off due to fruitfullness. Till this day, fruitfullness is a sin with God. Am I bearing fruit or I have very good reasons my life is unfruitful? Have you ever seen an ante carrying something about 5 times its size? The spirit must be ; any how, I must be legitimately fruitful .
E. Verses 12-14 .Practical session for practical living. It is a good thing that a church or fellowship create multiple opportunities for interactivity Jesus had lots of Q & A I His earthly ministry Three sets of people asked Jonn: what do we do? He gave specific answers to each of these sets of people. A times the one-,fits – all approach may not deliver. This is why churches that have strong branding in children’s church , teens church , strong men’s fellowship and all is very commendable. For example listen to this:
Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”
Luke 3:14 NKJV
F. Verse 16. John the baptist cleared the doubt In the peoples heart as per his identity. The One that comes will ” baptize you with Holy Ghost and with fire.”
G. John the baptist put in prison by Herod because he could not withstand the truth on immorality preached by John. We discussed the details of this case in some previous studies on the other synoptic gospel.

  1. John Baptised Jesus. 21-22.
When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21‭-‬22 NKJV.
  2. Two major things are confirmed by the water baptism of Christ among others:
  • That Jesus Christ did water baptism confirms that it is not to remit sin and can not remit sin. Jesus Christ had no sin. So there was no sin to be remitted. Water baptism is to testify to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
  • The event at the baptism of Christ confirm the doctrine of Trinity as true.God the Father was the voice that spoke from heaven. Jesus Christ the Son was being baptised. God the Holy
Spirit was the one that hovered as a dove..
  1. The Genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Maath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah, the son of Joannas, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of

Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
Luke 3:23‭, ‬26‭-‬27‭, ‬30‭-‬31‭, ‬34‭-‬35‭, NKJV.
The lineage of Jesus Christ up to Abraham and down to Adam. A number of lessons:

if the genealogy could be traced and put on the table, you should not subscribe to teachings that tend to want to obliterate your background.

Spend time to let your children know where you came from. The idea of cutting off from all your relations and gravitating to becoming a lone ranger has no bridal support.

Daddy I thank You for salvation.
Father Lord please have mercy on me and my family.
Father Lord, please let my life be Your profit centre
Father we reject every new wave of the on-going pandemic in Jesus.
Father let darkness leave my nation alone
Please be reminded of the prayer for Nigeria.
Tell God to deliver our children from drugs and substance abuse.
Pray for all those believing God for fruit of the wonk that the Almighty will remember them.
Begin to thank God.
